Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Not too much prep wise at the NCO household. Broke up the garden and bought 8 cans of the NIDO powdered milk. Will probably get some more sugar, flour, and frozen goods later this week.
How about y'all? |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
I ordered a Bulgarian AK from Atlantic, along with additional hi-cap mags for both my Saigas (7.62 x 39 and .308). One reason for the extra mags is I'm thinking about picking up an additional Saiga in .308, as that seems to be the most cost-effective choice in .308.
I also bought every last one of the 15 rd. boxes of 12 ga. 2 3/4" 00 buckshot at one of the local Wally-Worlds. That comes to 20 boxes, or 300 rds. Let's see, what else. Food. I'm sure I bought some food for my stash. Oh yeah, I picked up a couple cans of Vienna sausages! |

Bought a 7 cf chest freezer, bought about $100 worth of canned ham and crisco at the local wally world. acquired 10 30rd mags for the AR, and about 1200 rounds (that number will be lowered a bit at the range today).
Also purchased about 50 rounds of buckshot, 100 rounds of 40SW, and a couple more boxes of HP 22. Oh, yeah, picked up my new Left handed AR15 this week too! Don't underestimate the need for cooking oils or grease kids. |

Woo Hoo!! We got a call from a relative that Grannys old cook stove was up for grabs if we would come get it. Its in my storage building now. If we ever have lights out we can crank the old gal up.

Went to a local gun show yesterday....just to look around & picked up a couple 30 rounders & stripper clips for a .30 carbine I inhearited. Had to stand in line for 25 minutes just to get in ( this IS not normal - usually just pay & walk in ) the place was packed. Prices were up on most everything.....no good deals at all

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Not much put away this week, just a couple of liters of veg oil and DW added to her fem product stash.
I'm so pleased to see folks moving along with their preps as best that they can. Nice score jaima! Don't forget to get some stove pipe and elbows to put away with that cookstove. Rust never sleeps so please make a close examination of the ash box and water box...a little wirebrush action and some high temp spray paint might be needed. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Brewer is right on.....get the heaviest gauge stove pipe you can find.....some places carry a light gauge ( like 28 gauge ), but find 24 gauge if you can ( smaller the number, thicker the metal ), because it will last MUCH longer.....I found the light stuff burns out in about 2-3 years, and the 24 will last 6-8, or more. Cheap as the stuff is, I bought enough for 2 spare sets and put it up.
That will be one of those "can't find it things" if TSHTF. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Andy, I have plans for my stove. If we have lights out during the summer I can install it right in the storage shed and crank it up for cooking every few days. If its winter it can be installed in the house and used for cooking and heat.
I really, really dislike the cold. I have often thought that would be the worst part of TSHTF. I have a few fireplaces but they put out minimal heat. Ill bet the stove cranks out some heat. One resource that is plentiful here is wood. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Loaded up on Girl Scout Cookies - Thin Mints.
Now I just need solar powered freezer to keep 'em frozen for when TSHTF. |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 24 Feb - 1 Mar
Polished up on my shooting skills both pistol and rifle. Also dusted off some old brain cells to recall some CQB skills and did them just to keep up on them.
I bought some more pistol and rifle ammo to replace what I shot plus some. I bought 12 #10 cans of freeze dried food. I bought a super first aid kit and put that one away for future use. I also went to wally world and bought about 2 dozen vegetable seed packets. I guess I wasn't focused on any area but needed all of the above. Small steps to get where I need to be. |
